Sunday Ride

Sunday was to good to be sitting inside watching some cars race around the mountain at Bathurst so Bushpig suggested a ride followed by beers. Of course I didn't need any encouragement so we set off up to the upper catchment area of Warragamba Dam. These pics are from the Nattai Look out. Every time I have come up here I have seen other bikers and today was no exception.

After this stop we decided to get lunch at the Wallacia Hotel. We swapped R1's for the trip to get lunch. I won't forget the little boy with his dad on the way out of the car park, as Bushpig road past him on my R1 he put his hands up over his ears. Looks like my bike must have been to loud for him.

The first difference I noticed was that I could hear the engine noise rather than the exhaust noise. Bushpigs R1 has the standard pipe where I've got a noisy carbon slip on. The other difference I noticed was that his suspension seems to cope with the rough roads a hell of a lot better then mine did, Yep I reckon the rear shock needs to be rebuilt on my bike. His R1 still has the vibration through the throttle side handlebar that numbs your hand after awhile. Handling wise it felt very similar but was initially harder to tip in but this is probably due to the difference in the tyres profile.

  1. Looks like a great Sunday Steve.

I remember you suggesting Warragamba Dam to me as somewhere to check out when you first commented on my blog, going by those photos I'd have to agree. Here's hoping I get there this summer.

Does this mean you'll be busy pulling bike bits apart sometime soon?

    1. I think I was talking about Wyangala Dam up near Cowra, thats a bit of a shorter ride for you. Warragamba dam is in Sydneys western suburbs near penrith.

  2. Great pics Steve. Very envious of all that blue sky. We had a short ride on Sunday but it didn't get higher than 12C on our route!

    1. We've had some fantastic weather up here on the weekends, great for riding. 12°C is pretty chilly for this time of year.

  3. Oh yeah, looks like an excellent day to be out. Not a cloud in the sky. So given the decibel levels,do you think you might remove the exhaust slip on?

    1. Nope no chance. Its not that loud really, maybe it is for a 2 year old boy though. You wouldn't hear my bike if it was running next to a harley.

  4. Fabulous Steve, bring on summer eh? Meeting other riders at some remote spot and chatting like you've known them forever is what it's all about eh?

Interesting observation about the vibration - different years?

    1. Yep us motorcyclists are general pretty friendly types. My friend has the first model R1 1998 where as mine is the 2000 model. Very similar though.

  5. I would say Steve that after the amount of k's you have done a new rear shock is probably well needed...

  6. Great pics Steve. It looks like a beautiful day weather-wise.

Itnteresting comparison with your and Bushpig's R1. It is good that you can ride each others bikes and compare notes.

    1. It helps out when diagnosing problems with your bike by checking against another model to see if they both do the same thing or not.
