2015 R1 Recall

Yep it looks like all those rumors about a gearbox recall are true. I got my letter yesterday. Looks like it going to be in the shop for open heart surgery....

  2. At least they recognize there is an issue, and with your getting the service, you should have many trouble free miles of riding.

    1. Id like to think so, however when my local dealer put my mates tyre on backwards I have a few misgivings about them dis-assembling and engine and gearbox and putting it back together properly.

  3. Bugger - had seen reports about this. Like you, I wouldn't be too keen to see my Suzuki dealer strip major bits of my bike. Hope all goes well. In the USA, some GSX-S 1000 models like mine have also been recalled because of potentially defective seals on the brake calipers. Haven't heard anything in NZ yet.

    1. Ah mate the brakes, thats an easy fix, but a gear box, now that is a major fuck up. I've seen the Yamaha USA tech video of the gearbox disassembly and I know have grave concerns that my local mechanic has the ability to do this. I would be happy to take it back to Yamaha and them do it but the local bike mechanic, I don't think they have the know how for this.

  4. That's disappointing but at least Yamaha are up front about it. Presumably the new gearbox will come with an extended warranty?

  5. Bugger! I'd certainly be asking for a loaner bike whilst yours is off the road. Are you able to take it to a Yamaha dealer of your choice?
