2015 R1 Battery

The new 2015 R1 has shed a truck load of weight compared with the previous model. Looks like the battery is one area they found some weight reductions. Here is the photo of the new R1 battery followed by a comparison of the 2000 R1 battery. The new battery is tiny.

I've read a few stories on the R1 forums about the new R1 battery going dead after a few weeks of not riding. So far nothing has happened here yet but I'll have to wait and see.

    1. The old is 10Ah and the new is only 6.3Ah. Big difference. Lets hope it doesn't die soon...

  2. Big difference in size. I guess the answer would be to ride it at least once a week...... no chance to go dead.

I have no room to talk when I've gone months without getting on the Gladius. Still has the original 2009 battery and has never failed to start even when below freezing outside. Yay, battery tenders.

    1. It's a massive size difference Brandy. Lets hope it doesn't give up the ghost anytime soon.
Unfortunately I don't get to ride often enough to not worry about it going flat. Might look into a battery tender.

  3. Wow, that is small Steve! A few weeks ago, the OEM Yuasa died on the Triple after 6 years and I replaced it with a Motobatt. Same size, but probably half the weight due to the construction. They seem to have a pretty good reputation. Hope you're still loving the beast!

    1. Six years is pretty good mate. Bet you can't wait to get your hands on the new Susuki.
The new R1 is a sexy beast and I'm loving it, however there are a couple of downers as well which I'll post up soon.

  4. Just keep riding the thing and it'll be sweet...

Both my bikes are still on their originals - the Connie's is just over 8 years and 129,000km old...And I can leave her for 3 weeks and she starts up as soon as you touch the go button...

    1. I'll try but I can't get out every weekend with kids and shit happening, life is just too busy.
8 years is excellent out of a battery. Do you use a battery tender or you use your bike to often for that?
