A Chiller update

It's been awhile since I've posted anything up, there's a couple of reasons for that. I've been so busy of late with both work and with also things going on with my partners family there's not been much time for riding or even blogging so I thought I'd just do a quick up date.

Last outing was to Sydney Motorsport park which was a fantastic day out, I've not been out on the bike since then but I did manage to take the slicks out and put on a brand new set of Michelin Pilot Power 3's. Yes I know I had some problems with them on the last set with the uneven wear on the side of the tread where the 2 compounds met, but after I punished them hard at Phillip Island whilst they had 6300kms under their belt I was pretty impressed on how well they worked. Perhaps the last tyre was a bad one for the wear problem, I don't know but I'll find out when these one's wear out. I had no problem with grip even at the end of the life of the tyre. I took them off with 7070km's on them. Superb wear on a sports tyre with a track day as well.

If I get the same wear out of these then I'll be a happy boy that's for sure. Just need to get out for a ride soon.

New and old

I've also been trying to be a bit more health conscious lately, well as far back as October last year to be honest. With the upcoming Phillip Island ride day I made a effort to eat healthier, drink less alcohol(NOOOOOOOOOO are you fookin daft man?)and do a bit of exercise to which I dusted off the old exercise bike for some pedalling which I've stuck with so far. The main motivator to start with was to get into some sort of shape so I didn't kill myself at the track because I was to fat and lazy to get the bike punted around. Now I can see other benefits so I've tried to stick with it as best I can. I now eat fruit every day and try and have more veggies, but I still love my beer and steak, don't get me wrong I haven't gone all mental(I'll never be a vegan, sorry Brandy). I usually try to do at least 4 days a week on the exercise bike. The net result of this since October last year is that I've lost about 14kg(30 lbs). Woo hoo, I feel much better now than I did six months ago that's for sure. I'm now down to the mid 90's which I haven't been since I left school.

There is a down side to this though, if there is a downside I hear you say, and that is that I've dropped 1-2 sizes in clothes and all of my current clothes no longer fit. I have some shirts that were given to me as Christmas presents a couple of years ago that I've never worn as they were 1 or 2 sizes too small, I now fit into them. Now my problem here is that my new set of Tiger Angel leathers are also, now way over sized and baggy. They no longer fit, they are big around the chest, belly, rear, arms and legs. Hell the whole suit is now too big. They are great leathers but I couldn't have timed that worse I guess. My mate Geoff says just to eat more pizza and drink more booze and problem solved but I don't think I want to do that.

So what to do, what to do........ I have pondered for a while and there's only 2 options that I can see. Either I send my leathers back and get them down sized, I've no idea how much that will cost or do I just go buy myself a new Jacket to fit my new size and then a set of draggin jeans......I'm thinking it would be easier to just get a jacket in case I put the weight back on at a later date I can always use the Tiger Angels again.

What do you guys think?

The pics below show my now baggy leathers, the pic on the right there's at least 2-3 inches extra each side of the zip. My left hand is flat on my stomach.

Here's a pic of me back in February last year in New Zealand below on the left with a photo of me tonight on the right. Yes I've still a bit to go yet, realistically I'd like to lose another 5kg(11 lbs) then I'd be pretty stoked.

  1. Great job on losing weight. It is always a good feeling. And don't worry veganism isn't contagious!!

When you have to adjust every aspect of the suit because it is quite a bit too big I don't think it would be cost effective. You could always send them off an email with some pics inquiring. When we lost weight we had to get all new gear as well. I lost about 30 lbs and hubby lost 50 lbs from his heaviest.

Don't forget to adjust your suspension for the weight loss.

  2. Bloody good effort Chiller losing all that weight and living healthier! Time for a new leather jacket I reckon. I bought one of these recently http://www.fc-moto.de/epages/fcm.mobile/?ObjectPath=/Shops/10207048/Products/Alpinestars-GP-R-Leather-Jacket/SubProducts/Alpinestars-GP-R-Leather-Jacket-0023&Locale=en_GB bloody good value IMHO.

    1. Neil, I think you hit the nail on the head. A new jacket is probably the ticket here I think. Thanks

  3. Kudos to you, loosing that much weight. Once you have settled into your final weight, go buy new gear instead of having your leathers redone, and enjoy your new you.

Brandy doesn't tell the whole truth about veganism... it sure is contagious. I sure have been "infected", by the two vegan Oregonians and Everyday-Riding Chris.

    1. Hi Sonja
Thanks for your thoughts which is a good one, I'll give it a few more weeks and see how I go. There's no chance of me being infected I'm sure of that.

  4. Very well done Steve on the life of the PP3's - that's remarkable. Perhaps the saving grace is that the R1 is so light, especially with your weight loss, hehe. I'm replacing the Triple next year so it will be back to sport tyres on its replacement. Something I'm not looking forward to having to ride in all conditions with IAM.

Congrats on your weight loss! I've done the same and am now down to 76 kg from my heaviest at 86 kg. Still eat well, just not junk food and I still like a good beer or wine! Easier on my ancient joints too! I had to buy new clothes too but as my retirement gear largely consists of shorts and polo shirts, eBay USA was my friend!

    1. Hi Geoff
Oh new bike time, any thoughts on what you may get next?
Looks like the weight loss is catching with everyone on here. Good to here you've lost that much too mate. I know how much better I feel now, you'd be the same i'm guessing.

  5. Top effort on dropping the weight my man. I started hitting the gym about 18 months ago and have dropped at least 12kgs too. I haven't done much with my diet accept try to hit the takeaways on the head. Been a bit slack since Xmas (thankfully kept the weight off though) and now getting back into it again. I'd still like to drop more and keep increasing the fitness levels.

Hard work, but well worth it!

    1. 12kg is a great effort mate, have you had problems with your gear not fitting you now you've lost that much?

    2. There's a plenty of room in my Alpinestars britches. I recently bought a new set of adventure riding gear and it all fits a lot better. Other than that, new jeans a size smaller but some of my work shirts are actually a bit tight across the shoulders - stuff has moved around a bit...

  6. Hey great job Bro! How much better does it feel now?
You should get a mountain bike and get outside for some rides. It is waay more fun than sitting inside and helps with motivation.
I say put your old(new) leathers on Fleabay and buy a new set that fit properly(once you reach your goal weight). That way you will not be tempted to let yourself slide backward. In the mean time shout yourself some Draggin' jeans and a textile jacket. Your bike will feel like it has 20 more horsepower too!

  7. Well done Chiller, I've also lost a bit of weight over the past year and an unexpected side benefit was that a lot of the aches and pains which I had come to expect at my (advanced) age disappeared. It makes life and motorcycling much more enjoyable - good luck!!

  8. Great job Chiller. I wish I could get my weight stable. I lose my belly then grow it back with bad eating and not exercising enough. I have twice the gear I need since I have it in two sizes.

    1. Hi Warren
I've had the same problem as you really up and down, except lately it was more up than down. It took a bit of effort to get the down to happen, I don't want to go back up now. It expensive buying all this bike gear isn't it?
