Revisiting the Past

This Christmas/New Year hasn't really gone to plan so far. Whilst I was hoping to get back into some sort of fitness after winter and get some riding done I've not done anything. Well why not you might ask and that would be a very good question.

Two days before christmas I managed to injure my left knee and I haven't been able to do anything since. The worst part is I don't know how I injured it. Stairs = nope, walking more than 100m = nope. After two x-rays, an Ultra sound and a CT scan and all coming back showing nothing wrong I've kind of giving up on modern medicine being anything reliable. Sitting around drinking beers and surfing the interweb for motorcycle content and cameras to add to my collection have been the order of the day. This certainly hasn't improved my fitness levels but my knee doesn't hurt after 6 beers and I have learned alot about DSLR cameras and how stupid some people on motorcycles can be, thanks youtube.

This has also meant no new content for the blog, oh well I have a ride coming up in February just hope my knee is sorted by then. So I delved into the past to look for something to do motorcycle related. One of the best ever rides was our 2014 New Zealand South Island trip and I thought I'd put together a time lapse video of the trip up of the Mount Cook road. Hope you enjoy.

  1. The video popped up in my Youtube feed this morning and I made me scratch my head for a moment...

5 minutes is pretty good time for that bit of road. Although I once did it without using any fuel...on the ride out the howling gale practically blew me up the valley and the Connie was only sipping the good stuff...

  2. Hard to ride with a buggered knee. I hope it is feeling better by the time your trip in February comes around. Sound like it 'needs' (no pun intended) to heal on its own if the docs can't find what is wrong with it.

Nice video though, thanks for putting it together.

    1. I could probably ride, it only really hurts when I walk. I think it will probably heal itself and the Doc's will still be none the wiser.

  3. Speedy recovery mate. My recent lack of fitness weight gain is self inflicted, too much red wine.

  4. Sorry to hear that Steve - heal quickly mate. Can you do a bit of gentle cycling? That does wonders for my knees. When I stuffed mine, I stuck the bike in one of those static frames with a variable load setting.

Great to see the video of the road to Mt Cook. Ashamed to say that I haven't ridden down there for 10 years!

If you want a laugh at my expense, I cracked a rib just before Christmas, due to being a dick playing about with a recycle wheelie bin!!!

  5. I also was on a motorcycle trip, but only in mountains of Thailand. I lived there about three weeks, and decided that I would need transport. I recommend rent scooter chiang mai https://catmotors.net/bangkok-chiang-mai-better-train-bus-flight/ if you are going to arrange your trip, in this country. I used their routes for my advanture time, and I was impressed by this country.
