Grey Gums Cafe - Motorcycle Friendly Business's

I thought I'd make a series of posts starting with this one about motorcycle friendly places. It can be difficult sometimes as a motorcyclist getting poor treatment or service from some business people just for the fact you ride a motorcycle. Now there are a lot of great people out there that will go out of their way to welcome us motorcyclists and they appreciate the business we give them. So this is the whole purpose of this post to recognise some of these places that give us great service.

The Grey Gums Cafe is one of those great little places. It is located on the Putty Road half way between Singleton and Windsor. You can't miss it really as its in the middle of no where. It is a great place to stop and relax during a ride. The owner Kim is a very friendly lady and has had a hell of a time with all the government bureauacy that singleton council has put her through just to stay open which you can read here, it was good to see that an Aussie motorcycle forum netrider started the ball rolling in helping in the fight against singleton council and their ridiculous claims to which local radio personalities finally helped in taking up the fight on her behalf. They ended up with over 14,000 signatures on their petition of which one of them was mine. In this day and age you would have thought council would be behind the idea of a place like this where you can rest, revive survive etc as it's a long drive/ride from anywhere to here.

They have plenty of tables to sit down and eat/drink at and there is usually other bikers here to shoot the breeze with. I've said it before and I'll say it again the burgers here are fantastic. The good food, great location and friendly atmosphere tops it off really.

Motorcycle only parking

Out the front is motorcycle only parking on a nice concrete plinth where on any sunday there can be dozens of bikes parked here. They even have free soap & water and chux wipes so we can clean our visors. Now that is biker friendly.

Free visor cleaner
They have a large car park out the side and have clean toilets and even free camping for the first 48 hours I believe all in this little country oasis of sorts. You can view their website here. http://www.greygumcafe.com.au/index.html

All in all a great place to stop for a bite to eat, and relax when out on a ride all in a friendly atmosphere. Oh and by the way I have no affiliation with the owners or staff of this place.

  1. Good on 'em. Each time I drive past I almost pull in, then think "I have driven 900km and only 100km to go, so keep driving. Next time I will stop and get a burger.

  3. Steve,
Good for you and others for supporting a go-ahead business! Looks a great place and deserves every success. It's really sad that local councils seem to contain more time-serving jobsworths than most organisations. Ours is no different judging from the hassles we had when wanting to replace our house deck. Well done for highlighting a great business.

    1. What is it with government organisations? They could run a chook raffle down the local if their lives depended on it. I think 3/4 of them are just there to write red tape policys.

  4. Brave of them to have a business out in the sticks that depends on motorcyclists to a large extent.
One of benefits I've noticed from having gray hair now is that I tend to get treated better by all sorts of retailers when in motorcycle gear. I'd like to think it's because they think that you have discretionary $s to spend, but they're probably thinking "mostly harmless"!

    1. I am sure motorcycles make up a large portion of their business on any weekend, but they still have to survive during the week.

Yeah i'm starting to go a little grey around the edges, maybe thats why i get a better reception than 10 years ago.

  5. What a great idea for a series of posts Steve.

I've never heard of that place but it looks good, will definately drop by there if/when I'm next over that way.

Have to admit I've never had a bad reception so far being on the bikes, I guess being 5 foot nothing does the same as grey hair ... 'no threats here'

    1. Hi Brenda
It's not a bad idea to share with other bike riders, bike friendly places.

You probably get a lot of interest from people as there are not a lot of women who ride bikes so it is fasinating for them.

  6. Very serene looking place. I can imagine a picnic on the benches, lounging and admiring the bikes a few steps away. Hope they are safe from the council and can be enjoyed for a long while to come.

  7. It is always a treat to find a motorcycle friendly eatery. One who's staff and other patrons don't look down upon you for looking like a Power Ranger in leather or even a spaceman in textiles.

To find one that has visor cleaning supplies too - now that is a treasure.

    1. I used to be bothered by the looks people gave you when dressed up in full leather suite, but as I've gotten older it does not bother me in the slighest anymore. It's there for protection not looks.
